Installer incompatible with Python 3.12 #20

Open

Description

@philpennock

Attempting to install this Python module under Python 3.12.0 fails, because of the legacy API removals in configparser, see https://docs.python.org/3.12/whatsnew/3.12.html#configparser

        File "/home/pdp/tmp/pip-install-2veuinio/ed25519_edac44b7ec634c7a8d71316cd0dfedea/versioneer.py", line 399, in get_config_from_root
          parser = configparser.SafeConfigParser()
                   ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
      AttributeError: module 'configparser' has no attribute 'SafeConfigParser'. Did you mean: 'RawConfigParser'?

    @effigies

    The versioneer issue is resolved, but an old versioneer is vendored here. Upgrade with pipx run versioneer install.

    See https://github.com/python-versioneer/python-versioneer/blob/master/UPGRADING.md for any migration issues.

    This is still an issue and adding versioneer adds more problems I don't understand

    @ralucanegre

    Most of newer packages are backward compatible replacing ed25519 with pure25519
    and there should be a reference in a py file under python folder site packages in AppData like this:
    try:
    import ed25519
    except ImportError: # pragma: no cover
    from pure25519 import ed25519_oop as ed25519 # pragma: no cover

    I have Python 3.13 and I updated metadata.json to bypass ed25519 error and allow installation of pure25519 dependency.
